Who we are
The City of the Angels Foundation comprises a Centre for Art and Culture in a major shanty town (favela) in the Brazilian City of Sao Paulo, as well as a Centre for Art, Ecology and Spirituality situated in the Atlantic Forest two hours distant from the City.

How did we come into being?
We grew out of the basic Christian communities that mushroomed in Latin America from the 1960s onwards, and whose aim was to help create a sense of belonging and empowerment among ordinary people, especially those excluded from the most basic human needs, material and spiritual.
What do we do?
Through the medium of the arts, (plastic, scenic and martial) we try, on the one hand, to prevent children of the shanty towns from falling victim to the drug culture, to violence and organized crime, and to an early death as a result of exposure to these grim realities. And on the other hand, we try to recuperate children who have ended up on the streets and for whom there is no way back unless a hand of friendship and hope is extended to them.
